چکیده

IntroductIon: The internet is a widely-used resource for patients who seek surgical information. Many patients have wrong expectations of treatment options due to low quality surgical information online. High quality patient information should not exceed a 7th-grade reading level according to the United States Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS). We undertook a comparative readability assessment of patient information regarding breast reconstruction following mastectomy.

Elastic cartilage grafting in canine radial fracture

Bone has a capability to repair itself when it is fractured. Repair involves the generation of intermediatetissues, such as fibrous connective tissue, cartilage and woven bone, before final bone healing can occur. Theprocess of cartilage-to-bone transition (CBT) is a key for the achievement of rigid bone healing duringfracture repair. We tested this potential for elastic cartilage using a long ...

Transient vascularization of transplanted human adult-derived progenitors promotes self-organizing cartilage.

Millions of patients worldwide are affected by craniofacial deformations caused by congenital defects or trauma. Current surgical interventions have limited therapeutic outcomes; therefore, methods that would allow cartilage restoration are of great interest. A number of studies on embryonic limb development have shown that chondrogenesis is initiated by cellular condensation, during which mese...

Editorial: potential application of mesenchymal stem cells in craniofacial reconstruction.

Numerous studies have been reported about the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into almost every cell type found in craniofacial tissues, such as bone, cartilage, tendon, ligament, muscle etc. Using MSCs as a cell source to engineer craniofacial tissue is becoming feasible. Some effects have been made to bridge the fundamental science and clinical application. Meanwhile, novel f...

Stem cell therapy for craniofacial bone regeneration: a randomized, controlled feasibility trial.

Stem cell therapy offers potential in the regeneration of craniofacial bone defects; however, it has not been studied clinically. Tissue repair cells (TRCs) isolated from bone marrow represent a mixed stem and progenitor population enriched in CD90- and CD14-positive cells. In this phase I/II, randomized, controlled feasibility trial, we investigated TRC cell therapy to reconstruct localized cr...
